- new moon in Taurus

Whether you realize it or not, the energy of the moon is always present.

The moon affects the tides as its gravitational force pulls on the ocean — and don’t forget, 60-70% of our human body is made up of water, which likely means that we are affected by the moon too.

If you are doubtful of this, I respectfully invite you to simply observe. Observe and take notice of changes in your emotional states, as the moon changes its phases, and verify the effect/energy of the moon yourself.

If you don’t know what kind of energy different moon phases embody — don’t worry. This blog post will serve as a practical guide for you to learn about the energy of different moon phases, and most importantly, ways to utilize these energies to manifest your desires and/or to become your ideal self.

🌑 New Moon - Intentions

New moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle. It has the perfect energy for intention setting. In other words, during a new moon, the energy will favor you in developing a new vision for yourself; because a new moon is a clean slate, a blank canvas, and you, holding the paintbrush, are free to paint whatever you want, or desire to become, in the upcoming lunar cycle.

Intention setting is a crucial step in the manifestation process as it lays the foundation for the masterpiece that you will eventually build. Intention setting can take many different forms, but the key here is to really embody the energy, emotions, and/or feelings which you want to manifest. You can do so by mentally visualizing the new “version” of yourself, or by writing it down on paper. Just pick the method that resonates with you the most (personally, I prefer writing them out on paper, aka scripting).

Examples of intention setting could be: “I am becoming a productive person,” “I am getting my dream body,” and/or “I have abundance.” It is commonly said that one should only use present tense, and should avoid using phrases such as “I will” or “I want” when scripting, as it can represent the energy of “lack” in the present moment. The way I see it, however, is that as long as you can embody the emotions of your desires, and thereby, sincerely intend on becoming that ideal version of yourself in the upcoming phase, you are free to do whatever makes you comfortable.

🌒 Waxing Crescent Moon - Building momentum

The moon’s energy during its waxing crescent phase will push you forward in your manifestation process — you will most likely find yourself feeling energized and motivated to take action toward manifesting your intentions.

During this phase, you simply need to hold on to that vision you have created for yourself, release any doubt or worry about how it is going to happen, and learn to trust the process.

The moon is by your side during this phase, so just ride along its energy. hold on to that vision, and take small, tangible, and consistent steps toward manifesting your desired reality.

🌓  First Quarter Moon (Half Moon) - Reflect and adjust

Starting from the first quarter moon to the full moon, you are likely going to experience some energetic or emotional turbulence, as the moon gradually illuminates those that are previously hidden — your shadow aspects.

Because of the conflicting position of the sun and the moon during a half moon (first quarter moon and third quarter moon), the energy can be a little unsettling; many find themselves feeling anxious without any apparent reason during this phase. You will likely see your commitment to your intentions/manifestations being tested, or you might find yourself needing to make some hard decisions regarding your manifestations.

Why? Because in order to make space and bring in the new (aka your manifestation), you need to first release the old. Thus, during this phase, you might start seeing what in your current life is conflicting with what you desire, thereby urging you to make changes that better align you with your desires. You might find these changes to be a little uncomfortable, as it is our human instinct to yearn for stability.

This is also the time for you to reflect on your initial intention: the first draft of your vision, and think about what is working and what is not. Then, make adjustments to it according to your needs and desires. While holding firmly to your vision during this phase, remember to stay open-minded and flexible, thereby allowing for (better) adjustments to be made to your intentions.

While some small challenges and potentially uncomfortable changes can come up during this moon phase, many beautiful synchronicities (or extreme coincidences, if logically speaking) regarding your manifestation will start coming up too! Thus, when you start to feel the unsettling energy during this time, don’t fixate too much on the negatives, but instead, practice gratitude and be content with what you have.

Be gentle and loving to yourself, you are almost there!

🌔 Waxing Gibbous Moon - Recognize negative patterns

The waxing gibbous moon is the last moon phase before the full moon. As the moon approaches its full illumination, our manifestation is about to come to fruition too. You might find yourself intuitively sensing that something important is going to happen regarding your manifestations.

This is a great time to be mindful of both your emotional state and your physical surroundings. You are most likely going to encounter events that bring your attention to the habitual behaviors, and/or self-limiting mindsets, that are preventing you from obtaining what you desire. Be aware and make note of those that no longer serve you, and contemplate on the underlying roots of these negative patterns, so you can heal and release them for your intentions to manifest.

Continue to be mindful of what is working and what is not in your daily routine, continue to make adjustments to your intentions, and most importantly, continue to hold on tight to your vision and to believe in yourself.

🌕 Full Moon - Release and rejuvenate

When the moon fully illuminates the sky, it sheds light on all that was previously unseen by us. Depending on your manifestation progress, a full moon can either bring your manifestation into fruition or aid you in releasing those that no longer serve you (and thus, taking you closer to your manifestation, aka closing a karmic cycle).

The energy of the moon is at its peak during a full moon — your (emotional) sensitivity and awareness will also be heightened, and you will see more clearly what is holding you back. Thus, a full moon is the perfect time to release negative patterns, emotionally heal and rejuvenate, or both. What I like to do during a full moon is to write out what I want to release — patterns that I have identified in the previous moon phases, and to allow myself to sit with the calm and healing energy of the moon.

As an example, in the most recent full moon (April 16th, 2022, full moon in Libra), I have decided to release my long-standing pattern of procrastination (and always being late). Other negative patterns I have released during past full moons include jealousy issues, taking life too seriously (thus stressing myself out), and excessive worrying for the future. Personally, I would try to focus on one thing at a time, and I would journal out why I want to release it; what (negative) emotions are associated with this pattern; and what emotions I want to feel instead.

As our emotional sensitivity heightens, we can also find that it is harder for us to “tolerate” others’ energy. Thus, I would also avoid unnecessary contact with other people during this time. Thereby allowing space for contemplation and re-centering of our own energy (by calling all of our energy/attention back to ourselves).

When we are manifesting something big, it would, of course, take more than one lunar cycle for it to reach full fruition, but every time we release a negative pattern, we are allowing space for new and empowering ones to be developed, and ultimately, for the new version of ourselves to emerge.

🌖 Waning Gibbous Moon (Disseminating Moon) - Release and surrender

The waning gibbous moon comes immediately after a full moon, and it represents the slowly fading energy of the moon. During this phase, you can find yourself feeling a little lethargic, as you have just gone through a big energetic release during the full moon. Allow yourself to sit back, relax, and heal, while continuing to release those that no longer serve you.

You might find yourself feeling not as motivated to take actions towards your manifestations as before, and can even be feeling a little stagnant — this is all normal, as you are still in the process of stepping into the new energy. This phase of the moon is a good time to surrender and accept what is flowing out of your life, while not stressing too much about making substantial progress.

You might also encounter (more) circumstances that highlight the patterns you want to release. For example, if jealousy is what you have decided to release, during the waning gibbous moon phase, you might find yourself in more situations that trigger jealousy in you. Like the universe is intentionally putting you through these circumstances to provide you with the opportunity to look within and release. Thus, take advantage of these circumstances, and be mindful of your reaction towards these circumstances. Investigate the root cause of your triggers — what self-limiting beliefs are causing these triggers? What actions or behaviors have led to this circumstance?

This is a good time to step back and objectively evaluate and re-evaluate your internal state, and then, make better choices in stepping towards your manifestations, your desires, and your ideal self.

🌗 Third Quarter Moon (Half Moon) - Conscious decisions

The third quarter moon, just like the first quarter moon, is a half moon where the angle of the moon is conflicting with that of the sun. During this time, you will most likely continue to encounter events that push you to face your shadow self. You may feel anxious and easily frustrated.

Meanwhile, as a result of what you have chosen to release, you may encounter situations where a conscious decision is needed to be made. You may need to choose which path to take — the old, but familiar one that keeps you at your current stage, or the new, but perhaps uncomfortable one that takes you closer to your ideal self.

While it seems obvious that we should choose to walk down the new path, we may find ourselves falling back into the old routine sometimes. This is normal, as the journey of healing and release is never linear. Please remember to be gentle to yourself, and allow negative emotions to come through, so you can better reflect on what further adjustments you need to make in the upcoming lunar cycle. On the other hand, during this phase, it is also likely for you to realize that certain parts of your manifestations are not actually resonating with you. Be honest with yourself, reflect on your emotions, and then, make a conscious decision to walk down whichever path that makes your heart sing.

🌘 Waning Crescent Moon (Balsamic Moon) - Reflect and recharge

The waning crescent moon is the last moon phase before a new lunar cycle. It is the end of an old cycle. This is a good time to reflect on the current lunar cycle and think about what worked and what did not, so you can develop a new set of intentions that resonates with you even more in the upcoming new moon.

Depending on the progress of your manifestation, you can find yourself either celebrating the release of old patterns (and thus filled with new creative energy), or still feeling a little lethargic as you continue to release negative old patterns. Regardless, the waning crescent moon is a good time to contemplate your recent journey to better understand what your heart desires, so you can craft a better vision for you to manifest in the new lunar cycle.

No matter where you are currently on your manifestation journey, be proud of yourself and the progress you have made during the soon-ending lunar cycle. At the same time, start thinking about what new version of yourself you want to bring out in the upcoming cycle.

🌑 New Moon (again) - New cycle begins

One lunar cycle lasts about 29 days. When one cycle ends, you shall ride the energetic flow of the moon again to either continue manifesting that big desire of yours (as big goals take time to manifest) or change course and start manifesting something else. The choice is yours.

Of course, we can always change directions with our free will, but doing it with the backing of the moon will make the process smoother and (more) effortless. As you are no longer oblivious to how moon phases affect your emotional state, you can now simply ride along the moon’s energetic wave, as opposed to going against it.

You may have noticed that the keyword “release” appeared for multiple moon phases; this is because most of the manifestation process pertains to the release of old patterns, habits, and/or mindsets that do not align with what you desire to manifest. Once you have done the bitter work of “releasing”, welcoming in the new will feel like a breeze.

The moon is continuously changing its phases (as opposed to discrete changes), which means that you might not feel the energy on the exact day of the moon phase. Instead, you might find yourself feeling its energy a few days before, or a few days after the moon officially changes its phases.

Regardless, keeping in mind what energy different moon phases exude will help you better understand changes in your own internal state, and most importantly, will help amplify your manifestation power, as the moon herself is now aiding you in your manifestation process ;)
